Who is NET10?
In 2005, Tracfone Wireless chose to compete with itself with a new spin off company. Tracfone did this because they wanted a new and fresh "upscale" prepaid image without potential customers necessarily knowing that the new company was actually Tracfone or without having to revamp its current image through marketing means. They wanted to go after customers who either saw Tracfone as too expensive or as an inferior prepaid service. So for the same reason Toyota created Lexus, Honda created Acura, and Nissan created Infinity, Tracfone created Net10. This was actually quite easy for Tracfone as the new Net10 service would use the same coverage areas, the same customer service call centers and the same technology infrastructure. All they really needed to do was print new cards, create new phone packaging and create a new website with the same functionality as their existing service. As an added bonus, Tracfone launched the new Net10 service at around the same time they launched their over the air transactions. So new customers would not have to rely solely on having to punch codes into their phone like old Tracfone customers had done for years. Today, Net10 has grown to around 2 million customers and is an excellent alternative for customers who have middle of the road talk time needs but do not want to be burdened by a traditional cell phone contract.
Net10 works exactly like Tracfone. If you are familiar with Tracfone, then you know exactly how Net10 works. Fact is both Tracfone and Net10 use the same coverage areas with the same GSM and CDMA technolgies. If you are not familiar with Tracfone, please visit PrePrepaid.com to learn more about Tracfone . The only difference between Tracfone and Net10, is the pricing structure and their phone models. In order to attract new customers, Tracfone decided to use a straight forward pricing structure. All of their cards would give customers the same 10 cents per minute rate. Unlike Tracfone whose rates vary widely depending on whether you have the Double Minutes plan , buy higher denomination cards or use promo codes. This does not mean that one is better than the other. It really depends on what you are looking for in terms of per minute cost versus monthly costs.
