Will Tracfone Have an Unlimited Plan Before Year's End?

Ever since the Boost Unlimited plan, I have been wondering if Tracfone will be pursuing a low cost unlimited plan for around $50 (same as Boost). While Tracfone already offers an unlimited plan through Net10, it is $30 more expensive than the Boost offering. According to a recent CNN article, after offering their $50 plan, Boost has been adding customers at a very fast pace. In fact, Boost is adding new customers faster than just about any other provider. CNN also reported that while Boost is exponentially growing their subscriber base, post paid contact providers have seen 0 growth over the last few quarters. In addition, prepaid providers have accounted for over 80% of all new subscriptions through the first half of 2009. So it evident that customers are shifting away from contract services and into these new all you can eat prepaid plans in this cash strapped economy.

Since Tracfone has chased new subscriptions quite aggressively over the last few years across all wireless segments, I believe it is only a matter of time before Tracfone offers a similar $50 all you can eat plan that will probably offer unlimited Text, Data and voice. With their already large customer base of over 10 million customers, the largest in prepaid, I believe they are in an excellent position to leverage their large subscriber base against service providers in order to obtain favorable rates . I would not be surprised if we see this plan before the year is out. The only question in my mind is whether it will be marketed as Tracfone, Net10 or some other new entity to set itself apart from their existing product lines.
